Tracking in the EYFS

Now we have the Revised EYFS in place, the next thing is to look at
assessment!
The Framework for the EYFS suggests that practitioners should use the
Development Matters statements when tracking children’s progress
from birth to the end of Reception. The documents in this section were
constructed for groups of practitioners to use these statements. The
documents are
free for you to use in your own setting. One is in Word,
so you can personalize it with the name of your setting or school if you
wish. If you decide to give them a try, please let me know how you get
on.
If you have other models for tracking, assessment or Learning Journeys
that you would like to share with others through this website, please
send them to Sally:
sally@sallyfeatherstone.org.
The first document contains every
development matters statement from birth
to 60+ months. At the front is a single page
individual tracking form, which you can copy
for each child to acknowledge the current
stage of their development. The Early
Learning Goals for each area of learning and
development are on a separate page at the
end of each section.
The second document is a single ‘at a
glance’ sheet with all 17 Early Learning
Goals. It’s intended for planning, reference
or assessment. Remember that the DFE
recommends that you should NOT use the
Early Learning Goals for assessment until
the final term of the Reception year.
